False Solomon's Seal Smilacina racimosa |
 |
|
Both true and False Solomon's Seal are members of the Lily family.
They are differentiated by the distinctive scar left at the base of the
plant stem when it is broken away from the root; Smooth Solomon's seal has a
distinctive pattern which reminded early american colonists of the seal of King
Solomon, while the False variety merely exhibits a circular pattern. The
False Solomon's Seal has a terminal cluster of white flowers in the Spring,
which turns into a cluster of berries by Fall, as shown here.
