This is not an extremely common flower, and it is small and
delicate enough that in the Midwest you have to be really looking for it
in order to see it. It's common name, "Spurge" comes from the Latin word
"expurgare," "to purge," because the plant has been used as a laxative,
in very small doses, but it can be fatal in large ones. the butterfly
in this picture is an Eastern Meadow Fritillary.
