Virginia Rose Rosa virginiana

This picture does not show the familiar flower of the wild rose, but rather its fruit. The fruit of the rosebush is called the "hip," and it grows when the base of the rose's flower swells up and turns red after the petals have been lost. Rose hips are completely edible to both humans and animals, and are extremely rich in Vitamin C. They have a pleasantly tart taste, and are best used to make jellies or teas.
