Butterfly Weed or Pleurisy Root Asclepias tuberosa

This brilliant orange flower is one of the loveliest, and most readily recognizable, of roadside flowers. It is a species of milkweed, and was believed to have medicinal powers, as both its second common name and its scientific name indicate.
